Marc Shoul lives and works in Johannesburg. He was born in Port Elizabeth in the Eastern Cape in 1975 and studied photography at the Port Elizabeth Technikon where he graduated with honors in 1999. His work, Beyond Walmer was exhibited at the Association of Visual Arts Gallery in Cape Town (2000) and Natal Society of Arts, Durban (2001) and he has participated in several group shows including (TITLE?) at the Arts Association of Bellville (1999) and (TITLE?) at Photo ZA in Johannesburg (2004) as well as at the World Health Organization TB Exhibition in India. He was also featured in the AGFA Youth International Photojournalism Publication 1999. For the past seven years, Marc has worked for various local and international magazines including Time, Colors, Wired, Blueprint, Dazed and Confused, Design Indaba, World Health Organization, SL, Marie Clare, Men’s Health and Mother Jones. He has also photographed for various advertising clients and agencies including TBWA Hunt Lascaris (Sasol, Standard Bank), Metropolitan Republic (MTN), FCB (Nedbank, Super Sport), Lowe Bull (Valpre),Y&R (MTN). He is currently working on Flatlands, a body of work located in the Johannesburg inner city, as well as a series on the Jewish community in his hometown of Port Elizabeth. He is interested in exploring themes of social relevance and change within his country and further a field.
